SHORT BIO: Lieutenant Eric Shine, a US Merchant Marine Kings Point graduate, Officer in the Navy, and an expert on the history of the Merchant Marines joins us to blow the whistle on implementation of martial law through a militarized Coast Guard.
Lt. Eric Shine is a serious very honorable officer of the Navy and Merchant Marine who was targeted and persecuted due to his diligence even for saving a man’s life because he refused to allow glaring problems on the job to slide instead drawing attention to dangerous issues on ships.
The Military Whistleblower Protection Act is a U.S. law that protects members of the Armed Forces from retaliation when they disclose illegal activities or violations of regulations. It allows service members to make protected communications to Congress or an Inspector General without fear of adverse personnel actions.

“Coast Guard whistleblowers have come forward to report issues including sexual misconduct, harassment, discrimination, and safety concerns. High-profile cases like Operation Fouled Anchor have exposed systematic failures in handling sexual assault reports, while others, like the case of Lt. Cmdr. Kimberly Young-McLear, have highlighted broader problems of discrimination and retaliation. These actions have led to congressional hearings, policy changes, and increased awareness of the need for greater accountability and support for whistleblowers. Whistleblowing is protected by laws like the Military Whistleblower Protection Act, which prohibits retaliation for reporting misconduct or safety dangers. “The Coast Guard Whistleblower Protection Regulation, 33 C.F.R. Part 53, establishes policy and implements Title 10 U.S.C. § 1034 to provide protections against reprisal to members of the Coast Guard. Under 33 C.F.R. § 53.5, a member of the Coast Guard is defined as “any past or present Coast Guard uniformed personnel, officer or enlisted, regular or reserve,” and includes cadets of the Coast Guard Academy.
